Watercolors, Wonder, and a Real Hug Palo Alto, CA
I am glad this retreat brings me to this part of the U.S. so I can visit Jennie again. We FaceTime often, but nothing beats a real hug.
I am so appreciative when Jennie takes a day off from work so we can spend time together. We both agree it is too hot for a hike—this is a museum day! I learn to let a local lead the way. It always ends up with a great surprise for me.
Jennie suggests we check out the Foster Museum. From Google: The Foster Museum is a private, non-profit, single-artist museum located in Palo Alto, California, dedicated to the watercolor wilderness journeys of artist-explorer Tony Foster.
I mainly paint with acrylics (when I do, it has been a while). Watercolor has always been a gentle wish in my heart, but I get a bit intimidated by it. I find it to be a skill that is hard to master.
I am blown away by Tony Foster's ability to capture the essence of nature in his paintings. I love how he tells a whole story within the frame, adding a small connection to the place he paints, like a collection of tiny rocks or a few dried leaves. These simple souvenirs reflect the colors of the landscape that he paints so masterfully.
When I get to the Coral Reef section, it is as if I am inside the painting, feeling the silence of the deep ocean. I am full of admiration for his art. It is truly a must-stop if you are in Palo Alto.
Another great place to explore here is the Stanford campus. The Cantor Museum and the Stanford grounds are a beautiful way to end the day.
I am so close to San Francisco, but Adi—my oldest son—is traveling in Bali right now, so there’s no reason to drive into the city.
The only reason I travel to California this time is to attend the Introduction to Mahamudra: The Four Yogas retreat with Dustin DiPerna.
Adi has been encouraging me for a while now to experience Dustin's teaching. So, back in October, when an in-person retreat showed up, I signed up right away.
I am glad this retreat brings me to this part of the U.S. so I can visit Jennie again. We FaceTime often, but nothing beats a real hug.
Now, it is time to go and be part of a week filled with new experiences and a deeper spiritual journey.
